Ideas for an effective Area Council

Top tips and ideas for an efficient and effective Area Council (generated at Nagaloka, 2025):

  • meet often to maintain momentum in your AC
  • meet in person at least once a year
  • AC Convenor stay in regular contact with the IC Convenor
  • let the IC Convenor know when AC meetings are taking place and occasionally invite him/her to attend
  • inform the IC Convenor/IC Steering Group of any important agenda items or news from your Area
  • invite guests to AC meetings to stimulate and inform discussions
  • consider producing an AC newsletter which could be posted on the IC website
  • induct new members – help them get up to speed on ongoing issues/processes, be welcoming

Other things to consider:

  • how do new Oms in your Area hear about the AC?
  • how do you ensure you’re selecting the right people for the AC?
  • have you thought about co-opting Mitra Convenors onto your AC?
  • would it be helpful to organise larger (more inclusive) 3-Strand meetings in your Area?
